Corn Earworm
A southerly flow wind pattern is expected to return to much of the corn-growing region as we head into late week and next weekend ahead of the next cold front. As a result, Low corn earworm migration risks are in the forecast on a nightly basis until this front clears the area which will likely occur between late Saturday and early Monday morning. As southerly winds increase from southern and mid-south source regions, Low migration risks are predicted mainly along and west of the I-35 corridor tonight into tomorrow, with the risk then spreading east as far as Lake Michigan and into Illinois tomorrow night into Friday morning. Low risks then focus mainly along and south of the I-90 corridor over the weekend as the front begins to settle to the southeast and where more focused southerly to southwesterly winds are expected to reside. Growers with crops at susceptible stages of growth, including both field corn and fresh market/processing crops should monitor traps and scout fields as some isolated moth flights are possible over the next several days.
