Corn Rootworm
High corn rootworm hatch risks will continue to spread north over the next week as temperatures generally remain at or above average with only scattered rainfall possible. Soil temperatures will continue to respond with accumulated heat units increasing at a faster rate, potentially leading to additional areas further north seeing their first corn rootworm larvae hatches in the next week. Initially, High risks focus from Kansas into far southeast Nebraska, Missouri, southern Iowa, central and eastern Illinois, central Indiana, and western Ohio. By late week into next weekend, however, risks continue to spread north into northern Kansas, eastern Nebraska, much of Iowa and Illinois, the remainder of northern Indiana, far southern lower Michigan, and further north and east into Ohio. Growers in or near these geographies are encouraged to begin (or continue) scouting efforts especially where corn rootworms have historically been a problem and also where soil moisture/conditions are favorable for hatches to occur.
