Alert Details

Western bean cutworm moths and potential egg laying/larvae issues are expected to focus more across the eastern Great Lakes and into Canada now given the time of year and also host plant/crop stage in this area may be more favorable for damage. More advanced crop stages elsewhere as well as generally declining moth captures signifies the end of the annual flight and potential damage window closing. Moderate risks remain in the forecast for the next week across eastern lower Michigan into southeast Ontario and southwest Quebec, Canada, with more isolated problems in Low risks across far northeast Colorado, Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, southwest Minnesota, western Iowa, far northwest Missouri, and then further east into Wisconsin, portions of the UP of Michigan, far northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and on east into Canada. Growers especially in the Moderate risk area should continue monitoring traps and scout fields until the crop is either too advanced in growth, is harvested, and/or the flight subsides for the year.
