Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm hatch risks continue to spread north as heat unit accumulations continue to be met or exceeded. High risks for more widespread hatches extends from southern Kansas northeast into southeastern Nebraska, central/southern Iowa, Missouri, much of Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio as well as into southern lower Michigan. Moderate risks for more initial, scattered hatches is found further west and north from eastern Colorado into northwest Kansas, central Nebraska, southeast South Dakota, far northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, and into portions of central/eastern lower Michigan and also northeast Ohio and further east into southwestern Ontario, Canada. A continued expansion north in the initial hatch risk is likely later this week into next weekend in Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and lower Michigan. Growers are encouraged to monitor plants and also dig up roots to determine where corn rootworm populations may be present.
