Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm emergence continues to increase across an increasingly larger portion of the corn-growing region as heat unit accumulations approach critical thresholds. Initial emergence should continue across much of the central/northern corn-growing region and Ontario, Canada in the next five days with pockets of greater concern in northern Kansas, Nebraska, western Iowa, Wisconsin, and much of the Great Lakes region where counts are higher. A high emergence risk is predicted across central and eastern Nebraska by the end of the week and early next weekend where peak flight and critical corn stages supportive of egg laying and potential damage may coincide across a larger area.
