Corn Earworm
Corn earworm migration risks are on the increase over the next several days as a low pressure system develops in the far northern Plains and southern Canada. South to southwest winds will continue to increase and expand eastward throughout the weekend as temperatures and moisture subsequently increase. Low migration risks are predicted mainly from central Wisconsin and Illinois westward tonight into tomorrow, and then as far east as south central lower Michigan, Indiana, and western Kentucky tomorrow night into Sunday. Moderate risks are in the forecast across northeast Iowa, southeast Minnesota, southwest Wisconsin, and northwest Illinois Sunday night into Monday, with Low risks then expanding east across much of the Great Lakes and eastern corn-growing region as the cold front trailing south of the low pressure system begins moving east. Growers all across the corn-growing region but those especially in more intensive processing and field crop acreage in the northern corn-growing region should monitor traps and scout fields as new moths may be arriving over the next several days, especially after a week or so of little or no migration possibility. Continued risks may hold in the forecast into mid-week next week, also, so stay tuned for forecast updates early next week.
