Corn Earworm
The overall corn-growing region weather pattern is expected to become slightly more favorable for corn earworm migration in the coming week, although still not ideal for more widespread, larger-scale flights. Nonetheless, given a more advanced crop stage in mid-south and southern states source regions, time of year, and a vulnerable crop in the corn-growing region further north, risks will be more frequent even on less than ideal expected weather conditions. Low risks on an increase in southerly winds are initially predicted tomorrow night into Wednesday mainly across the Plains and western corn-growing region. This Low risk area then expands east into a large portion of the corn-growing region especially along/east of the Missouri River by Thursday and continues into the weekend. Some indications of a large cut-off low pressure meandering through the heart of the corn-growing region by next weekend may result in some changes to both placement and level of migration risk to this forecast later in the week, but for now Low risks are predicted for most areas mainly for isolated moth flights and until forecast confidence increases later in the week.
