Alert Details

Corn earworm migration risks will be on the increase as we head into the weekend, with Moderate risks now predicted especially Saturday night into Sunday across portions of the northern corn-growing region. Before that point, however, additional more isolated or lower end moth flights may occur mainly west of Lake Michigan and the I-57 corridor in eastern Illinois tonight into tomorrow as southerly winds increase. This risk area persists into Friday night into Saturday in addition to expanding slightly east into portions of southwest lower Michigan, Indiana, and western Kentucky. By Saturday night into Sunday, while there is still some uncertainty in just how much precipitation will occur and where, enough confidence in the forecast has led to a Moderate risk upgrade across southern Minnesota, Iowa, northern and central Illinois, and into southern Wisconsin with Low risks continuing elsewhere. A cold front may move southeast through some or all of the corn-growing region early next week, but Low risks continue east of the front as far east as the I-75 corridor into early next week. Growers with crops at susceptible stages to corn earworms should monitor traps and scout fields in the coming days to week as new moths are expected to arrive at least on an isolated, if not scattered, basis especially this upcoming weekend and potentially into early next week, as well.
