Alert Details

After one more night and early morning controlled by high pressure, organized southerly winds will begin to return initially to the Plains states by Friday night into Saturday morning. Subsequently, corn earworm migration risks are re-introduced to the forecast for areas primarily in Kansas and Nebraska. The risk area expands into the upper Midwest and central corn-growing region as well by late in the weekend and early next week as high pressure moves back into the southeast United States and a cold front moves into the Plains states. Southerly winds, however, are not currently expected to be particularly strong and with corn crops not as far along compared to this time last year, only Low corn earworm migration risks are in the forecast at this time.
