Corn Rootworm
High corn rootworm risks remain in the forecast, primarily for beetle populations and to determine any threats to next year’s crops, across more intensive acreage states of Kansas, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, northern Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Moderate risks for more scattered issues in the fringe acreage states of Colorado and into western Nebraska, the central Dakotas, and then east into the Great Lakes region as well as more advanced crops in Kansas, Missouri, and southern Illinois are also predicted in the next week. Growers should monitor beetle populations and also note any damage to the corn crop from corn rootworms, and be prepared to adjust planting intentions and/or any treatment decisions for next year’s crop if conditions warrant.
