Corn Rootworm
Corn rootworm risks continue to decrease in response to time of growing season and a more advanced crop stage across a large portion of the corn-growing region. Moderate risks, primarily for scattered corn rootworm beetle problems, continue from western and northern Nebraska into the Dakotas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario, Canada. Low risks are found further south from eastern Colorado and northwest Kansas into Nebraska, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio where any lingering issues should be isolated especially given a crop that is beginning to dry down at this time. Growers especially in the northern corn-growing region should continue scouting and monitoring for corn rootworm populations and locations as any higher populations now may lead to impacts on next year’s planting intentions or rotations. The overall threat for this growing season, however, is now lessening quickly and further risk reductions are likely later this week and into next week.
