Soybean Aphid
Soybean aphid egg hatch is predicted to either commence or continue across much of the soybean-growing region of the upper Midwest and into the Great Lakes region in the next week. Risks extend from the Dakotas and northeast Nebraska east into Minnesota, Iowa, northern Illinois, Wisconsin, lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, and also into southern Ontario, Canada. Cooler temperatures are predicted this week, so any further expansion of the egg hatch risk to the north is expected to be limited this week, and some newly-hatched aphids may not survive predicted freezing temperatures across portions of the upper Midwest this week. Growers are advised that this risk is being issued to provide an awareness that soybean aphids are becoming active in this growing season – it does not mean there is a threat to crops at this time.
