Alert Details

Soybean aphid egg hatch is predicted to continue across a large portion of the Midwest and Great Lakes region over the next week. Some warmer temperatures and rainfall are predicted this week across much of the region which should result in egg hatches being observed further to the north across the upper Midwest, Great Lakes, and also further into Ontario, Canada. Soybean aphid egg hatches are predicted to continue in north central and northeast Nebraska, eastern South Dakota, northern Iowa, southern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois, northern Indiana, southern lower Michigan, northern Ohio, and into far southwestern Ontario, Canada for the next few days. Additional egg hatches will be possible in portions of northeast South Dakota, central Minnesota, central Wisconsin, central lower Michigan, and southwest Ontario, Canada between Lakes Huron, Erie, and Ontario to the southwest of Toronto. Soybean growers all across the region should keep in mind, however, that very little, if any, soybean acreage has been planted in this region and any existing soybean aphid populations are likely having a difficult time surviving due to the harsh winter and lack of currently available hosts. This risk is issued to simply provide an awareness that soybean aphids are likely starting to appear in the risk areas but that action is not necessarily needed at this time given the time of year and crop stage.
