Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm moth emergence is likely to increase in the usual “hot spot” areas of the corn-growing region in the next week. Fields in northern Kansas and southern Nebraska as well as in the southern Great Lakes region including northern Indiana, northwest Ohio, and southern lower Michigan are likely to see additional moths appear in traps in the coming weeks, but the overall flight should still stay fairly low until we get into July, thus only Low risks for now. Additional moths may appear in portions of Wisconsin later in the week, as well. Growers are advised to set traps, if not already done so, and monitor moth levels in the coming week in preparation for peak flight in early-mid July especially in areas where western bean cutworms have historically been an issue in the past.
