Western Bean Cutworm
The annual western bean cutworm moth flight is showing signs of decreasing in many areas of the corn-growing region except in the far northern and eastern areas. Moderate risks remain in place across portions of Nebraska and far northeast Colorado where some lingering higher moth captures and/or egg laying in less advanced crops may still be possible in the next week. Additional Moderate risks focus across northern Wisconsin and also in lower Michigan and east into southern Ontario and southwestern Quebec, Canada, but risks have generally been reduced south of this region now given more advanced crop stage and widespread declining moth captures and reported egg-laying activity. Growers with crops at sensitive stages to damage from western bean cutworms should continue monitoring traps and scouting fields until the threat has passed for this year, likely in the next few weeks in most areas.
