Alert Details

Western bean cutworm moths continue to emerge as evidenced by trap counts across the usual hot spot areas for this insect, although we are seeing signs that peak flight has already occurred in some regions. High risks remain across portions of Nebraska where the flight appears most intense, with Moderate risks across northern Kansas into a larger portion of Nebraska and also into northeastern Colorado. Additional Moderate risks are found in the secondary area of concern for this insect across Wisconsin and also into northern Indiana and Ohio, lower Michigan, and into southern Ontario and far southwestern Quebec, Canada. Much more isolated issues are possible into southeast South Dakota, southern Minnesota, far western Iowa, far northern and eastern Illinois, and further north/east into the southwestern UP of Michigan and into Ontario/Quebec, Canada not in the Moderate risk. Growers are encouraged to regularly scout fields as the treatment window for effectiveness is rather narrow with western bean cutworm, and egg laying/masses and hatches are being reported in the more intensive areas for this insect with a crop at a vulnerable stage to western bean cutworm damage.
