Western Bean Cutworm
As heat unit accumulations continue to increase and crops approach critical stages where insect damage could potentially occur, western bean cutworm development/emergence risks continue to expand in coverage and risk level. Moderate risks continue across portions of Kansas and Nebraska for the next five days as the peak flight continues or commences in this region. Additional Moderate risks are now in place across northwest Ohio, northeast Indiana, and southeast Michigan and also portions of Wisconsin by next week where some higher trap counts and more fresh market crops are at stages where damage could occur. Look for continued increases in both risk and coverage areas in the next couple weeks across much of the corn-growing region as this insect moves through its annual generational cycle.
