Alert Details

The annual western bean cutworm flight is now commencing across portions of the corn-growing region. Corn is also beginning to silk in some of these same areas, so Low risks are now in place especially across southern Nebraska and northern Kansas, southern Wisconsin into northern Illinois, and far southwest lower Michigan into northern Indiana and far northwest Ohio. Growers with silking corn in these areas should monitor western bean cutworm activity very closely over the next few weeks. Heightened risks will be forthcoming starting next week, especially as more fields become vulnerable and the annual flight increases with increased accumulated heat units.
