Western Bean Cutworm
Western bean cutworm emergence and flights continue to increase across much of the corn-growing region. Moth catches are decreasing in portions of Nebraska, however, so the peak flight region is now shifting further north through the remainder of Nebraska and into Iowa and Illinois where heat unit accumulations have or will soon reach into 50-75% emergence thresholds.
High risks extend from Nebraska into Iowa, northern Illinois, and also into southwest Wisconsin in the next five days. Moderate risks cover virtually all of the corn-growing region from South Dakota into southern Minnesota, Wisconsin, southern lower Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio by the middle of next week. The remainder of the corn-growing region from North Dakota into central Minnesota, central and northern Wisconsin, and also into Ontario, Canada are at risk by next week as well.
