Moderate black cutworm migration risks are predicted tonight into tomorrow morning especially across the southern and southwestern Great Lakes region. A strong cold front is expected to move through the corn-growing region over the next 24-36 hours or so, and south to southwest winds will become quite gusty east of the front with little to no precipitation, as well, which will allow an unimpeded track for moths to fly from southern source regions north. Moderate risks are found across eastern Missouri, far eastern Iowa, Illinois, southern Wisconsin, Indiana, western Ohio, and lower Michigan. Growers should be on the alert for potential new moth arrival and the start of heat accumulations for new generations that may impact newly-emerged corn by next month. Little to no additional migration risk is predicted after tomorrow morning as wind flow will be unfavorable for migration.
